Simone Thomalla’s First Visit to Seaside Palm Beach 

Simone Thomalla’s connection with Seaside Palm Beach began over two decades ago, during the filming of the movie Der Bestseller, in which she starred alongside actor Ottfried Fischer. “We were shooting night scenes by the pool,” she recalls with a laugh. “I asked him if he wasn’t cold, and he replied, ‘I’m too lazy to shiver.’ That line has stuck with me ever since.” 

That film marked the beginning of a lasting story — one that has continued to this day, often shared with people especially dear to her, like her daughter. “It’s been so many years… Sophia wasn’t even ten at the time. She was just a little girl.” From that moment on, the actress knew this was the place she would return to whenever she needed peace, space, and time to truly disconnect. 

Gran Canaria – The Perfect Destination for a Holiday 

Simone Thomalla first discovered Gran Canaria through her work, but over the years the island has found a special place in her heart. Today, it’s one of her favourite destinations whenever she needs a break. How she spends her time there depends on the company and the moment, as she shares: “It really depends on who I’m travelling with. Sometimes we hire a car and set off to explore. Last time we went to Las Palmas. Other times, I simply stay at the hotel, enjoy its comfort or take a stroll along the promenade.

She talks about Seaside Palm Beach with the kind of warmth that comes from familiarity. “You can retreat into your own space and feel completely safe — almost like being at home. Just ten steps away lies one of the island’s most stunning beaches: On one side, the Maspalomas Dunes; on the other, the promenade. Everything is within reach. That, to me, is true luxury.” 

Over the years, Simone has seen the surrounding area evolve. “There are now more places to enjoy a good meal, go shopping or have a cocktail.”

A Perfect Day at Seaside Palm Beach 

When asked about her perfect day, she can’t help but smile. “It starts with me waking up in the morning feeling healthy and full of energy, knowing that a barbecue awaits me in the evening.”

She admits it’s hard to resist the variety on offer. “You could fill up on the starters alone. You really have to be disciplined if you want to try the rest. But to be honest, I've never eaten anything here that wasn't delicious.” When it comes to dessert, she heads straight for the cheese buffet, as she prefers savoury over sweet.

Simone enjoys the familiar and relaxed atmosphere of the hotel. “Most guests here are rather reserved, which I find very pleasant. Sometimes someone will come up for a chat, but they understand that people come here to relax. I really like that kind of discretion.”

What touches her most is the familiarity of the faces she has come to know so well. “If someone from the team isn’t around, I notice it straight away,” she says with a laugh. “Where’s Luis this year? On holiday? He didn’t ask for my permission! Please send him my best — but tell him this is the last time he’s allowed time off while I’m here!”

For Simone, it’s precisely this personal touch that defines the charm of Seaside Palm Beach. “It’s such a lovely feeling to arrive and hear, ‘Señora, how wonderful to see you again.’” 

After so many stays and special experiences, she sums it up simply: “Palm Beach is a luxurious hotel, but it’s also warm and deeply comforting. What makes it unique is the continuity of its team — many of the staff have been here for years. That says a lot about the management, and even more about the people who work here. It’s not forced friendliness, it’s genuine warmth. And to me, that means everything.”

Many of Simone Thomalla’s most treasured memories at Seaside Palm Beach are closely tied to her family, especially the years when her daughter Sophia accompanied her. “I can still picture her swimming in the pool or running through the garden with her little friends.”

She also recalls moments full of humour, like at the White Party where she and Lelianne Bakens arrived in the exact same dress. “It was really sweet — I’m very fond of her.”
